On Tuesday we were lucky enough to spend the day doing some hands-on learning on Rotoroa Island. In collaboration with the Auckland Zoo, Rotoroa Island is being established as an important wildlife conservation reserve in Auckland’s Hauraki Gulf Marine Park. The big question we were to think about was, what are we doing as humans to make a difference on the island?
We experienced some engaging activities to get us thinking about this big question including tracking pests with GPS and researching them using tablets, learning about traps used on the island and how to identify the birds on the island using a tagging system.
Our awesome guides from Auckland Zoo also took us on an amazing hikoi around the island, where we could enjoy the amazing views, learn more about the reserve and its history.
