Becky Minton

2019 marks the start of my journey at Waitoki School and I am excited to be part of such an amazing school. I have a Bachelor of Education and have previously taught at several Auckland schools in the Year 4-8 age levels.

I am passionate about creating authentic learning experiences amongst the whole curriculum and guiding students through inquiry learning. Maths and Technology are two particular favourite subjects of mine to teach. In my classroom I foster a growth mindset and encourage all students to be life long learners. Outside of school I enjoy spending time with my husband and two young children. My main hobby is horse riding and I am regularly out riding my horse at the North Shore Riding Club

Kia Ora, I’m Mr T, the newest member of the Waitoki whanau. Together with Becky Minton, we will be teaching Ruma Wha this year.

So here’s a little bit about me. I am a plumber by trade and literally stumbled into teaching after a rugby injury took my All Blacks dream away, well … that and the fact that I wasn’t any good. After finishing my Bachelor of Education at the University of Waikato, I made the journey from Mount Maunganui to Auckland. Apart from a quick O.E. to London, I have been teaching around Auckland for the last seven years.

My pedagogy may be continually changing and adapting to the times, but the reason I teach always remains the same; to make a difference. Since taking the plunge into the wonderful world of teaching, I have never wanted to do anything else. It’s an amazing feeling being able to not only steer a student’s waka in the right direction, but give them the skills needed to paddle towards any star they choose.

I look forward to seeing where this year takes us, and please come say hello if you see me floating around.
