William Pike Challenge

Waitoki School Year 6 to 8 students are participating in an innovative youth development programme called the William Pike Challenge, which inspires youth to step outside of their comfort zone and develop crucial 21st century skills.

To register for the programme there is an individual student fee which needs to be paid to the school in order for each student to participate in the WPC and to have access to the Challenge Hub.https://www.williampikechallenge.co.nz/

The fee for 2026 is $53 per student and can be paid online to the school account or by cash/eftpos to the school office. Invoices will be issued to parent /caregivers. We appreciate that this is an expensive time so we can accommodate you spreading this payment out over the coming weeks.

William Pike Challenge programme overview:

Who is William Pike.

William is a proud Kiwi, businessman, social entrepreneur and motivational speaker. Learn more at www.williampike.co.nz

The William Pike Challenge (WPC) is a year-long youth development programme for students (Years 6–9)that is facilitated in schools and by teachers around NZ. It is designed to encourage stepping outside comfort zones to build resilience, confidence, and 21st-century skills. The programme operates through three core pillars: 20 hours of community service, 20 hours of passion projects, and five outdoor activity days.

Core Programme Pillars:

Outdoor Activities (5+ Activities): Students participate in challenging outdoor experiences, such as kayaking, tramping, or camping, aimed at fostering adventure and nature appreciation.

Passion Projects (20+ Hours): Students choose, plan, and complete a new hobby, skill, or sport to foster personal growth and passion.

Community Service (20+ Hours): Students contribute to their local community, learning the value of service and giving back.

William Pike Challenge driving belief and mission:

We believe all young people deserve a future where they succeed in whatever they do in life, no matter what unexpected challenges and obstacles come at them, which they will in the rapidly changing world our kids are going out into.

To be prepared for that, they need a bank of experiences under their belt, that’s got them used to stepping out of their comfort zone, so they’re prepared for whatever is around the corner in life and go on to achieve their absolute best.

That’s what the WPC programme does and our mission is to have every child in our New Zealand school system given this opportunity in years 6, 7, 8 & 9 because we believe that collectively we can do this.

Final call: Rippa Rugby Years 3-6. Numbers required
20 Apr 2026

Hello Year 3-6 Rippa Parents,

We need more numbers to make participating in Rippa Rugby a reality. If you are intended on taking part, please read the following & complete registration by EOD tomorrow.

We have been invited once again to take part in the North Harbour Rippa Rugby Tournament held at Rautawhiri Park (Helensville RFC) over 2 days, one day in Term 2 and one day in Term 3. The 2 days and times are:

•           Thursday 7th May  (Save Day Tuesday 12th May) 9.00 am – 2.15pm

•           Thursday 13th August (Save Day Tuesday 18th August) 9.00 am – 2.15 pm

Fees: These will be $10 per child to play in the two tournaments.

We will also be holding some coaching sessions during school time through North Harbour Rugby. They will come to school and every class will have a chance to participate and learn the skills, game play and the rules of Rippa. Further details will follow when more information is available. Your team coach may also decide to hold some coaching sessions, these will be up to the individual parent and will be outside of school hours.

If your child is in Years 3 - Year 6 and keen to play Rippa Rugby in these two tournaments, please subscribe to the Rippa Rugby 2026 group in Skool Loop, where all future comms will come from.

Also please head to Skool Loop forms to complete the permission form by EOD Tuesday 21st April so we can gauge if we have enough interest this year and that your child can go to the tournaments via bus.

As always we rely on our wonderful parents to coach our teams, as well as parents to supervise on each of the 2 days. Please use the comment boxes in the Permission slip to let us know if you are able to help on either of the two days, and filling in the Coach section if you are able to coach. We greatly appreciate it!

If you have any further questions regarding sport, please contact Jess in the office on office@waitoki.school.nz

Netball 2026 update
1 Apr 2026

Kia ora,

Regrettably we won’t have a Waitoki Netball team this year.

We have tried really hard to get composite teams together and reached out to a number of schools, but unfortunately we just couldn’t come up with the numbers, and there were three schools in the same boat as us.

I appreciate that this will be sad news for some of you who had your heart set on being involved in netball this year, and we acknowledge that netball has been a strong tradition at Waitoki School.

Looking towards next year, I think it would be helpful to know if you were interested in netball, but chose not to sign up, then what were the barriers to sign up? Please email me at office@waitoki.school.nz with feedback or suggestions.

Thank you
